E-Waste (Electronic Waste)

This project had many sites throughout the country, so the logistics, timing and planning were key in having the correct people and equipment onsite in a carefully sequenced order to enable the swift and seamless removal of the equipment that could then be fully recycled back at the Hayes Metals base.

Project Summary

Hayes Metals played a pivotal role in the nationwide transition from analogue to digital TV receivers, overseeing the logistics, planning, dismantling, removal, and recycling of old analogue television receiver equipment and associated components across New Zealand.

Project Scope and Execution:

This extensive project required meticulous planning and coordination. Hayes Metals dispatched specialist teams equipped with advanced tools to remove the outdated equipment from buildings located in remote areas throughout the country. Our teams ensured that the dismantling and removal processes were conducted safely and efficiently, minimising disruption to local communities.

Temporary Storage and Recycling:

To manage the large volume of redundant equipment, Hayes Metals arranged temporary storage sites strategically located to facilitate smooth operations. Once collected, the equipment was transported to our recycling facilities, where we achieved an impressive 100% recycling rate. This commitment to complete recycling underscores our dedication to environmental sustainability and resource recovery.

Challenges and Solutions:

  1. Remote Locations: Accessing and removing equipment from buildings in remote areas posed significant logistical challenges. Our teams utilised specialised vehicles and equipment to navigate difficult terrains and ensure timely removal.
  2. Coordination and Planning: The project required precise coordination between multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless execution. Hayes Metals implemented robust project management strategies to maintain efficiency and meet deadlines.
  3. Temporary Storage Management: Establishing and managing temporary storage sites for large volumes of equipment demanded careful planning and resource allocation. Our strategic approach ensured that storage and transportation were handled effectively.

Successful Completion

The estimated time for project completion was two years, and Hayes Metals delivered on schedule, successfully transitioning New Zealand from analogue to digital TV receivers. Our ability to manage complex logistics, coupled with our commitment to sustainability, resulted in a project that not only met but exceeded expectations.
