The project involved the decommissioning and removal of transmission towers in some very difficult locations, which required extensive planning and precise execution to ensure that neighbouring properties and buildings were not damaged.
From May to December 2024, Hayes Metals completed a significant project for a major client, involving the decommissioning and removal of a power transmission network, including transmission towers. Throughout this project, we recovered 119 tonnes of materials, comprising both Steel and aluminium, for recycling.
Our efforts resulted in substantial environmental benefits, with calculated carbon emissions savings amounting to 348 tCO2e. As requested by the client, Hayes Metals documented these savings on a Project Emissions certificate, providing clear evidence of our commitment to sustainability.
Challenges Faced During the Project
- Complex Logistics: Coordinating the removal of transmission towers across a wide area required meticulous planning and execution to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Environmental Considerations: We had to navigate sensitive environmental zones, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to strict environmental regulations.
- Material Handling: Safely dismantling and transporting large quantities of steel and aluminium, requiring careful planning and use of our specialised equipment and expertise.
- Traceability Requirements: Providing full traceability for the remanufactured aluminium material demanded rigorous documentation and tracking processes to meet client specifications.
Despite these challenges, Hayes Metals ensured full traceability for the remanufactured aluminium material.
This traceable aluminium was subsequently utilised by our customers in the production of aluminium cans, automotive engine blocks, and various other automotive engine parts.
This not only highlights our dedication to recycling but also demonstrates our ability to support the circular economy by providing high-quality, reusable materials.
We have a reputation for safety and efficiency, drawing on innovative processes to deliver exceptional recycling rates of all materials, not just metal. The constraints of each project dictate our approach, where our experts can tailor a plan, advised by certified engineers, where necessary. We can then manage all aspects of the work, including health and safety, traffic management, rubbish removal and recycling.
